Health care provision in Nigeria is the responsibility of the government at all levels as enshrined in the 1999 constitution (as amended). While the FHCs are themselves accountability structure at the community level as the state led Accountability Mechanisms (SLAMs) are, at the state level, the FHC Alliance on the other hand serves as the accountability platform at the LGA level and as a bridge between the local and state level accountability platform to monitor, track, and advocate for progress on MNCH services at that level. The programme established the Facility Health Committee (FHC) Alliance to serve as a forum where FHCs within an LGA elect and send their representatives to LGA PHC to share their experiences and challenges. This forum is important because FHCs benefit from networking from each other, they learn about what others are doing, giving those ideas of what they can do and how they can overcome problems. They can develop joint activities.
