The Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and MNCH2 organised a Health Financing Conference for stakeholders from MNCH2 supported States from 7th – 10th November 2016. The Stakeholders included the Legislatures, commissioners for Health, Planning, Budget, Finance and Executive of PHCMBs. Among the resolutions from the conference was for States to explore other sources of generating additional funding for health. After the conference, Kano State Assembly commenced the legislative and stakeholder engagement to facilitate the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) Law to provide for monthly remittance of the State 5% Internally Generated Revenue and 1% LGA statutory allocation into an equity fund for health sector improvement. MNCH2 and other stakeholders-maintained advocacy efforts to the State Assembly and to the Governor of Kano State. This contributed to the subsequent passage of the law by the State House of Assembly and assent by His Excellency the Governor of Kano State
